Yesterday we did our first 3 mile time trial or as we’re calling it; the TTT. It was quite a pleasant evening without wind and not too hot or cold so, perfect running weather! The route which was a 1 mile loop didn’t take very much set up, nevertheless we had a few people come along to help out with marshaling on the evening.
There was a total of 19 people who turned up to have a crack at it, the majority of which were from TeamBR but we did have a couple come from Scunthorpe Road club and a few Broughton Community runners.
Early doors we had an issue with the timing system, later found out to be an issue with the time difference between the laptop and they system (turns out that the time needs to updated manually after the clock change!). Thankfully, it was quite easy resolved and all the times had still been recorded so did not affect the outcome.
Lap 1
From the off Liam Buttrick lead the way looking very strong and was in a comfortable first place by the end of the first lap with a 12 second lead on Daniel Johnson. Abigail Pearson was the first lady over the line on the first lap 38 seconds behind Liam. John Torn, the oldest participant in the event (MV70 category), demonstrated some excellent pace finishing the first lap in just over 8 minutes placing him in 13th.
Lap 2
Into lap 2 and everyone started getting into their stride. Liam had slowed down a tad but still held the lead, Daniel Johnson had dropped miles back with a lap time nearly 2 and half minutes slower! Apparently, this was caused by too many midget gems prior to the race, we think it might have been an excuse for going out too quickly 😀 However, this was taken advantage of by Phill Hills who had picked up the pace by his second lap. Abigail had demonstrated some excellent pace control by finishing her second lap only 1 second slower than the previous. As you can see by the table below there were a few changes in position after the first lap.
Phil, Abigail and Simon had all jumped two places to take second, third and fourth respectively, this was down to Arron and Daniel dropping back. Kelly and Gareth pipped Chris to bump them up a place and Karen overtook Andrew to get into the top 10.
Final Lap & Results
Liam and Phil stayed strong in the final lap and maintained their positions of first and second respectively. Simon overtook Abigail to finish third overall, whilst the battle still raged in the mid pack with Gareth overtaking Kelly and Karen overtaking Chris Brown. Out of the two Chris’ doing battle, Chris Woodliffe succumbed to Chris Kirkby at the last minute.
It was a brilliant effort from everyone and great to see everyone on the night. The gnats must have been pleased to see us because they came out in force to meet us too, there’s a few of us with itchy parts today!
It was quite a successful first attempt at this, and I suspect we will have some more in due course.
Well done to all that took part!
Awesome mate – Thanks again
