TeamBR is a friendly local running club that has a lot to offer. We became affiliated to England Athletics in 2022 after a long period of having a popular community based running group (Broughton Community Runners) which began in 2016. In 2021 we decided to create an affiliated club with the proper structure which would allow us to grow the club further and take advantage of the perks that affiliation brings and so TeamBR was born.

The running club that is focused on athlete development, hard work, trails and fun! From the people that created the Brutaliser(s) & the Broughton Burn, we now present our new club; TeamBR. We believe that club running shouldn’t just be about running together, but developing together too. Everyone has a different perspective of what “good” is and our aim is to help achieve those goals whatever that version of good might be!

Sessions that are structured for you to get the most out of them. Starting with a RAMP warm up, into drills before hitting the main session. The main session can be intervals, hills or sprints and there will generally be a technical point of focus throughout the session which we will try to build or reinforce.

These sessions are not the longest or most arduous workouts as some people may think. They are more focused on drills and form. The typical session lasts about an hour and will include 10 minutes of warm up 15-20 minutes of drills before moving onto the main session for you to practice those newly practiced skills.

The club is a trail/fell running club although we do still do some road events. After all, you get the best training from trail and fell, but what better way to see the effect that has had by going out and having a stab at a PB on a road race?

Amongst the other things running related that we are passionate about are hills and trails. Because of this, the club is a trail focused club and we do regular away days in the peaks. Trail running is much more beneficial for you than running on roads so this ties in with our ‘training properly’ ethos and, as we all know, hills produce the more training stimulus than running on the flats. So, there’s nothing better than getting out in the peaks for a training run and the views that you take in, makes you instantly forget the work it took to get up.

There are also club events such as the Broughton Trail Series which compromises 4 rounds 4 weeks apart in the first 4 months of the year. The position in each race determines the your score for the round and at the end of the series the scores are totalled across the rounds to give a series winner by gender. We have try-on nights where the local running specialist shop, MetresToMiles comes down to let us try on some of the new shoes they have on offer. During the festive period we hold our Run t’ Pub, which involves getting dressed up like idiots and running to the pub for a morning pint and a bacon buttie.

Runners Prep Sessions

Running is not just about putting one foot in front of the other and one area that is so often neglected is strength work, usually sent to the back bench until an injury comes along. It’s sometimes difficult to know what to do with the myriad of information on the web. So, we save you the hassle of going down the Youtube rabbit hole and provide weekly sessions every Sunday evening.

Runners prep sessions will make sure your body stays strong when you are tired, meaning that it will support the loads being placed upon it and is less likely to break!
