Last weekend was time for TeamBR’s home event, the Broughton Burn, and what a great turn out from the team!
Broughton Burn isn’t know for it’s lack of inclines and flat surfaces (where would the fun be in that?) but probably more well known for the challenging terrain, inclines and occasional head wind on the return climb! So, it’s not what we would call a “PB course”.
This year there were favourable conditions out on the course, there was minimal wind, the temperature was not too hot and cloud cover was overcast with some occasional spots of rain. so, all in all, perfect running conditions!
I wasn’t running due to race directing, but it was fantastic to watch the TeamBR runners head out on the course! There were some great efforts from all the team!
There’s nothing better than seeing you team mates getting out there and smashing out a decent effort or just having fun and enjoying the race. I’ve been coaching a couple of them 1 to 1 so it was brilliant to be able to see them give out an effort and do really well on a pretty tough course.
5k to 10k Graduates
We recently started an 8 week 5k to 10k training course for those people who had achieved 5k and wanted to move up to do more. We worked it out so the course would finish with the Broughton Burn as their graduation 10k. The course was designed by myself but lead by TeamBR’s fantastic bunch of leaders; Chris Brown, Emma Hayward, Siobhan Webb & Wayne Gammon.
Throughout the course there has literally been blood, sweat and tears but the bunch of them powered through the Burn and some of them were even smiling about it! No, not grimaces either 😂
It was a brilliant finish for them all, and now they’re even planning their next 10k!
Support
This bunch had a lovely morning out!
There was a lot of support out on the course and the Broughton residents had come out in force to cheer the runners on!
Results
This year we saw a new course record come in at 35:15 by Jonathan Shaw that took 14 seconds off the previous record! Rowan Booth took a new female course record with a time of 44:47 taking 54 seconds off the previous female record!
The event went really smooth helped by the amazing volunteers that give up their time to make the event a success. The volunteers are the unsung stars of the day in my eyes and we are all eternally grateful for them giving up their time to help on the day! Here’s to next year!
