Broughton Trail Series 2024

Well done to everyone who took part in our trail series event! We’ve seen some phenomenal efforts and we’ve had a fantastic time getting to know you all as the series progressed! Every round had it’s own challenge, whether it be rain, mud, hail, wind, cold, we’ve had it all. Sometimes the challenge is not in hitting the times you want but pushing yourself through tough conditions. I, at least, feel a great deal of satisfaction from enduring those conditions and finishing after pushing myself as much as I can. I may not get a time comparable to running the same distance on road but I find much more enjoyment from the trails.

After the passing of my mother last year we decided to dedicate the series to her. Betty Portess passed away after an infection which was complicated by a liver wasting disease. It was totally unexpected and utterly heart breaking for my family. So, it was really heart warming to see the amount of people who signed up for this year and came along to show their support alongside my father Trev, my son Archie and my wife Rachel. We have raised £200 which we will be donating to the Liver Trust in Betty’s memory. Thank you again for your support 🙏

The final round of our trail series took place yesterday and the sun came out specially for us. After 3 previous rounds of rain, slop and mud this time the ground was hard(ish), the sky was clear and the course was tough! However, this sadly means the end of the series until next year 😪 But on a positive note, we get to name the series champions!

Stephen Geraghty walked away with the overall series crown after placing first in all four rounds and earning the maximum points for the series. Stephen runs for Scunthorpe & District Running club and made running this series look effortless (whilst I was chuffing away behind him most of the time).

Hannah Neal took the ladies series crown by, again, finishing first lady in each round! She WAS going to go to Manchester marathon to watch her husband run on the same day as round 4, but decided against it to try and get the series crown! That’s dedication!

If you want to view the round scores head over to the round results page or if you want to see the full series scores, they are on our series results page.

On behalf of TeamBR I would like to give you my most heartfelt thanks for your support of this new and upcoming event! We will be back next year with more!
