Broughton Trail Series Round 2

Another month, another round of the trail series! Everyone was up at the crack of dawn to get ready, Rachel was particularly unhappy at having to get up early on a Sunday for race duties. I keep assuring her its for the greater good, but she seems unable to see any “good” when an early morning is on the cards at a weekend. The day started out pretty overcast and I was expecting rain as I loaded up the car in the morning. But, as I pulled up at the start the sun was already starting to break through the clouds and the day was starting to get better. Perhaps, it was because I was away from Rachel’s thunderous mood….

Whilst I was getting the start line set up up our volunteers came along for our mothers meeting which mainly involved gossip, the weather and, “where are we going?”. Wayne’s course check highlighted the usual amount of missing tape along with some humourously moved to make people go off course, all thankfully sorted before the event got going.

As people began to turn up, so did Rachel and thankfully took over the handing out of race bibs (I’d already handed out the wrong bib to someone!) 🤦‍♂️ Out of the 39 people sign up, we had 22 people turn up. Joanna Parkin, I’m blaming you, fancy having a party the night before! 😉 Before we got the race started, I couldn’t resist giving Sean Willis a few digs about his navigational skills and suggested that those behind him might have a chance if they didn’t follow him….

The race kicked off and everyone set off well, which meant I could settle down to a cuppa and hope that nobody got lost whilst I waited for them to come back in. And, as it happens, nobody did. I think we can thank Wayne’s course marking (along with his shouting at the people attempting to remove the tape) and the marshals for that! The weather was still looking good as the runners started to come across the line.

My money was on Sean Willis finishing first and I wan’t disapointed! He flew over the line with a time of 22:39 for overall winner. Second place came in just under 6 minutes behind, Adam Demeester (meant to be on a recovery day!) and third Simon Taylor a couple of seconds behind him. The first lady over the line was Iris Burnette with an awesome time of 32:54. We’re all looking forward to watching how Iris’ running progresses into the future.

All times are available to view here and if you want to have a nosey at how the series points are shaping up, you can check then out here. All photos taken during the race are available for you to view/download here.

Thanks again to all the volunteers and everyone that came along to take part! See you next round!
